How to Set Up a Twilio Account
This guide walks you through creating a Twilio account and getting it ready to hand off to the DBM team, so you won't need to log back in once setup is complete.
Step 1: Create Your Account
Go to the Twilio sign-up page and enter your information. You'll be asked to create a password, and Twilio requires a strong one, so use a unique, secure password rather than something you already use elsewhere.
Step 2: Verify Your Email
After signing up, check your email for a verification code from Twilio and enter it on the screen to confirm your account.
Step 3: Verify Your Phone Number
Next, you'll be asked to add and verify a phone number. Twilio will send a code to that number; enter it to complete verification.
Step 4: Save Your Recovery Code
Once verification is complete, Twilio will give you a recovery code. Take a screenshot or photo of it and save it somewhere accessible (your desktop or your phone). You'll need this code if you ever get locked out and can't complete two-factor authentication.
Step 5: Set Up Pay-As-You-Go Billing
Twilio is a usage-based expense that comes with your CRM. You're only charged for the tracking phone numbers you use for marketing, plus a small per-text and per-call fee.
Complete Your Customer Profile
To get started on Pay-As-You-Go, you'll need to complete a customer profile. This confirms you're a legitimate business, not a spam or fraud risk. You'll be asked to:
- Upload a photo of your driver's license.
- Confirm the account is for business use and that you're a direct customer.
- Enter your business information, including your business address.
Add Billing and Tax Information
After your billing address, you'll move on to billing details, including the address associated with your business tax documents.
Set Your Starting Balance and Auto-Recharge
Set a starting balance of $50. At this usage level, that balance typically lasts several months. Set up auto-recharge so that whenever your balance drops below $10, Twilio automatically charges your payment method to bring it back up to $50.
Add Your Payment Method
Enter your PayPal account or card information, then confirm the payment. Once this is complete, your account status will no longer show "upgrade."
Step 6: Answer the Business Profile Questions
Twilio will ask a few follow-up questions about how you'll use the account. Answer as follows:
- You are a business and a direct brand (the business owner, not a third-party integrator).
- The account will be used for customer care and marketing.
- You're interested in SMS and voice.
Step 7: Grant the DBM Team Access
Rename Your Account
Go to Admin, then Account Management. By default, the account will be named "MyFirstTwilioAccount." Change this to your company name and save.
Invite a DBM Team Member
- Go to Manage Users.
- Click to invite a user.
- Select your deck builder name as the account.
- Set permissions to API Access Admin and General Administrator.
- Enter the email address: deckbuildermarketer@gmail.com
- Click Invite User to complete the process.
